October 7 Changed Everything …
Since that day, more than 23,000 men and women have been injured
while defending Israel. Each has their own story of courage.
We share those of three young, newly disabled veterans.
DANIEL KOPILOV
Twenty-one-year-old Daniel Kopilov was critically wounded while fighting with the Kfir Brigade.
On March 1, 2024, shortly after his unit entered a house in Khan Younis, Hamas terrorists remotely detonated a powerful explosive device that destroyed the building, killing three of Daniel’s friends and injuring many others.
Daniel lost consciousness for hours. When he awoke and saw the devastating condition of his leg, he applied a tourniquet to stop the blood loss. The act saved his life.
On evacuation to the hospital, he underwent several surgeries. Unfortunately, due to a severe infection, surgeons were forced to amputate his leg above the knee.
Since his injury, Daniel has undergone intensive rehabilitation at Beit Halochem. He enjoys participating in the Young Veterans Club and wide-ranging sports therapy with a great interest in cycling.
He joined 100 other Israeli disabled veterans to cycle alongside Canadians on Courage in Motion (CIM) 2025,Beit Halochem Canada’s annual bike ride through Israel. Daniel’s determination and positive attitude inspired every cyclist up even the most demanding hills, and he looks forward to returning to CIM 2026 this October.
